What is Death Metal

In all the genres of metal music there is one called Death Metal. Death Metal is another style or type of metal music. Can also be concidered to be a division of heavy metal music. Death metal also has sub genres of metal music.

Where did Death Metal Orginate?

If the rumors are true than death metal orginated from thrash metal. With in the mid 1980s there were a couple of bands that inspired the growth of this genre. Celtic Fronts is know as the father of death metal, he was a member of Celtic Frost.
Death Metal Music

They have a very fast tempo of music, with insane guitar riffs and bass beats. Death metal music has always been known for the style of singing.

Death metal has always been tied with dark meaning or with the devil. This has been true in some black metal bands, because people will take their distortion singing and musical style and tag it to the devil. This genre is like any other genre of music, they write about various topics in life. Their songs will contain emotions like happiness, sadness, love and hate.

Other Types of Death Metal

Here are some other sections of death metal.

Melodic Death Metal

This death metal subgenre has bands included like At the Gates, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. They use complex guitar riffs, growled vocals and double bass drumming, a lot of the same structures and features of death metal.

Technical

Technical Death Metal is a break off of progressive rock and classical music. Bands like Opeth, Edge of Sanity and Cryptosy fit into this category.

Doom Death

Meaning they will have a slow tempo from doom metal, with a growling voice and double kick drumming from death metal.

Blackened

Bands like Behemoth, Blasphemy and Zyklon have brought out this fairly new subgenre of music called Blackened Death Metal. These bands have both features from the black metal world and the death metal world, so they called it Blackened Death Metal.

Goregrind

Deathcore

Deathcore is a break off of Goregrind / Deathgrind but has also incorporated some death metal elements. This style has very fast drumming, double bass, low down tuned guitars and growled vocals. They like to change up their melodic riffs, breakdowns and screamed vocals. Bands like Suicide Silence, Salt the Wound and Job for a Cowboy have designed this genre.

Next Step for Death Metal

With death metal branching out and being more and more popular into the 2000s and with society changing their views on metal music, you will be seeing more death metal emerge. More subgenres will expand and more bands will fall into this category.
